THE CATHEDRAL TOUR 2008

STANDING STONES

Choreographed by Jacky Lansley

Standing Stones is a major new dance work conceived for Cathedral spaces. Jacky Lansley will draw on her extensive experience of site specific work to approach these special and ancient spaces. Produced by Ascendance Rep, one of the UK's most innovative dance companies, Standing Stones aims to celebrate the timeless continuity of Cathedrals and the magnificence of their architectural landscapes through dance, visual image and music. The choreography uses the beautiful Clarinet Quintet K.V.581 played live by members of the Cornish Sinfonia.

Press Release 01.04.08

World Premiere: Ascendance Rep performs its new dance work STANDING STONES at York Minster, choreographed by Jacky Lansley

"Wherever the Ascendance Rep dancers perform there is always an expectant atmosphere, indeed a collective hum of anticipation. The company delights and cheers. Its mission is to reach out and this it does, thoughtfully and entertainingly. The company has created its own audiences through performances in art galleries, museums, libraries, bookshops and even on railway station platforms. Curious people stopped, enquired as to what was happening and then they stayed around for the remainder of the performance. As a consequence the company's theatre dates are attracting people new to theatre and new to contemporary dance in theatres. Their touring programmes are attractive to newcomers to dance and at the same time there are intellectual and emotional depths to challenge the more experienced..." Quote from Kevin Berry, The Dancing Times, Oct 2006.
