THE GRAND GALA PERFORMANCE

Ascendance Rep will hold a grand finale dance performance, involving 150 of the participants who took part in the project, to be held at Wakefield Cathedral on the 16th February at 6.00pm. The event is a culmination of dance heritage workshops run by Ascendance Rep across Yorkshire churches over the past three months.

PROJECT SUMMERY

250 young people from across Yorkshire have taken part in a large scale education project with professional dance company Ascendance Rep.

Last year The Heritage Lottery Fund awarded a grant of £50,000 to Ascendance Rep towards Your Space - an exciting heritage project working across ten Yorkshire churches. The award has enabled communities from all ages to participate in preserving the history stored within the churches.

A programme of workshops using music and dance were undertaken with 250 young people and used to inspire participants to create new work, culminating in original dance performances, film documentary and project exhibitions. The dances have been inspired by local stories, histories, church architecture and memories.
